The people of Šiauliai will welcome spring with the "Fearfully Beautiful Morės Farewell"

In 2024 February 9-12 The Šiauliai Cultural Center will run from the yard in winter - the city organizes initiatives for Mardi Gras. Traditionally, an exhibition and competition of "Fairfully Beutiful Morės" has already been organized in Kaštonų avenue, in which as many as 35 Morės are participating this year. On the eve of Mardi Gras, on February 12, the "Farewell of the Terribly Beautiful Moors" will take place. Farewell with Morės will be held at the Didždvaris gymnasium stadium in Šiauliai. It is expected that winter will leave together with Mores and soon we will welcome a new beginning of work, symbolizing rebirth in spring.
The organizer is the Šiauliai Cultural Center. The event is free.

Mardi Gras is an ethnographic holiday with old traditions, celebrated seven weeks before St. Easter is considered the last farewell to winter and preparation for spring. Back then, it was a great day full of joy, fun, surrounded by various customs, traditions and, of course, the ceremony of burning More. By burning Moré, the aim is to banish winter and summon spring.

On the occasion of Mardi Gras from February 9. until February 12 The 7th edition of the "Baisiai graišių Moriai" exhibition stretched out on Kaštonų Alley. This year we received a very large number of participants - schools, kindergartens, libraries and other institutions actively registered. Among the 35 participants are not only new, but also long-time lovers of the Mardi Gras initiative.

"Fearfully Beautiful Moriai's Party" not only draws attention to the traditional tradition of celebrating Mardi Gras, but also sends a powerful message about the importance of creativity and community involvement. This is the moment when we let go of winter in the form of laughter and welcome spring, remembering that there is light in every darkness, and after winter always comes spring," says Deimantė Bačiulė, director of the Šiauliai Cultural Center.

The organizers inform you that not only the "Exhibition of Terribly Beautiful Seas" is taking place, but also a competition. You can vote for your favorite Mora on the Šiauliai Cultural Center's Facebook account by pressing "Like". The creators of Moris with the most likes will be awarded with prizes established by sponsors. The organizers promise that no one will be disadvantaged - all the participants of the exhibition will be rewarded with sweet gifts.

February 12 6 p.m. the bloated beauties Mores, together with other disguises: Devils, Witches, Giltini and Goats, will travel from Kaštonoi alley to the stadium of Šiauliai Didždvaris gymnasium, to the noisy support of the children's and youth folklore ensemble of Šiauliai Dainų Music School "Vieversėlis" (conductor Arūnas Stankus). Traditionally, the main Mora will be burned here, together with the terribly beautiful Moras who took part in the competition and farewell. Created by Šiauliai Cultural Center artist Reda Uogintienė in 3.5 years. the tall beauty flaunts long, yellow locks, bright lips, her head is wrapped in a scarf, and she holds a branch in her hands. The latter symbolizes spring, which is expected to be summoned after saying goodbye to the Mores.
