Theatre Day in Šiauliai: the premiere of the play "Kiemas" left no one indifferent

On March 28, 2025, on the occasion of International Theatre Day, the Šiauliai Cultural Centre’s theatre studio “Gūžta” (artistic director Inga Norkutė) presented the premiere of the play “Kiemas”. The young actors invited the audience to the world of childhood, where rules are born by themselves, leadership takes unexpected forms, and friendship is tested by various tests. The play attracted great interest – the hall was full, and invitations were snapped up within the first few days.
Organizer – Šiauliai Cultural Centre.

On Friday evening, the story of the play took the audience to the yard – a space where children create their own rules, form a hierarchy and measure leadership through material things. However, the established order is destroyed by an unexpected intruder, forcing them to rethink the concepts of power, justice and community. This fairy tale is an allegory about social models that are recognizable not only in the world of children, but also in the world of adults.

The premiere dedicated to International Theatre Day was full of strong emotions – there was no shortage of both bright, playful moments on stage, as well as serious, deep experiences that touched the hearts of the audience. The actors of “Gūžta”, talentedly conveying the feelings and experiences of their characters, allowed the audience to remember their childhood experiences and think about how our attitude towards leadership, power and mutual relations is formed.

After the play, the audience did not spare applause and kind words. Many shared their impressions, emphasizing how convincingly the young actors conveyed the theme of the story, what an impression their acting left, and how perfectly the idea of the performance was revealed. Inga Norkutė, the studio's artistic director, was pleased that the actors of "Gūžta" bravely accepted this creative challenge and successfully conveyed the idea of the performance. "Children are able to convey emotions with special sensitivity and sincerity. "Kiemas" is not just a fairy tale - it is a deep look at how we are formed as personalities, how our environment influences us, and how we learn to build relationships with each other.

The organizers thank everyone who participated in this special theater celebration, supported the young generation of actors, and embarked on this sensitive journey together with "Gūžta". It is hoped that this story left everyone with their own thoughts and emotions.
